Landscaping Walls - 5 Ways To Use Them In Gardens

The common for of wall known to anyone is a brick wall. It is a commonly seen feature in any architectural space, indoor or outdoor. Brick walls form the space, which we call, as “interior space”.

Walls are constructed using bricks, stones, concrete blocks, etc by arranging one-by-one on top of each other in a special way termed as “masonry” The whole concept of masonry is to break the vertical joint for stability purpose, so that the load on the wall gets transferred at the bottom safely.

Walls have some great uses in landscaping. Here are some of them.

1)Walls are great for creating privacy. Walls can be erected around the backyard swimming pool area for hiding the changing rooms. Wall heights of about 10 feet are enough for this.

2) Medium height walls with a slightly broader width, around 1 foot can be used as a seating place around a rock garden or a fishpond.

3) Very low height walls are great for building a flowerbed. Instead of planting a flowerbed on the ground, small height walls running across the length of the flowerbed can give good direction to the growth of the flowering plants.

4) If you are trying to landscape a hillside the brick or stonewalls are a must for retaining the soil on the slopes. Such kind of walls is termed as retaining walls Depending upon the angle of slope a brick or a stone wall is constructed with an arrangement to flow out water ate regular intervals. If the slope is too steep, the height of the wall is increased to take the increased pressure of the top-level soil.

5) Walls can be creatively used in areas where there are high wind speeds. Medium height partition walls can be erected to direct the flow of wind away from interior spaces. This keep the interior warmer and you will save electricity on air conditioning.
